The Star UY Scuti
Exactly How Large is it?
Is this star big? Well, let;s just put it this way, you can fit 1,300,000 Earths into our sun. Yet you could fit 1,1 billion suns inside UY Scutti. It is seven astronomical units in diameter. An astronomical Unit is the - distance between earth and the sun or approx 93- million miles. Multiply that by seven, and we have the star's diameter which is 651,000,000 miles. or Six-hundred and fifty-one million miles This means that if UY Scutti were placed in the sun's location, its surface would reach the orbit of Neptune. . To illustrate just how unimaginable large of that is, a 747 jetliner cruising at 84 percent the speed of sound would take 1,200 years to circle UY Scutti. Light, which travels at 186,000 miles per second and can circle the Earth seven and a half times in one second, and circles the sun in fourteen seconds, would take seven hours to circle U Scutti. It is also a whopping 3,400,000 times brighter than our sun.
