Is permissive Parenting Wise?
. No rules and very little structure but loving they say? I don't include the Loving category because permitting kids to do as they wish is not a loving thing to do. It is no different from seeing someone driving his car towards a cliff and doing absolutely nothing to warn him.
On a personal note, my father saw me smoking like a chimney and never said a word about cancer, bronchitis nor asthma. Two of which hit me as a consequence. Was that loving? No, he was not a smoker, and I am sure he had his good reasons which he kept to himself.
Permissive parenting also irresponsibly ignores the challenges and expectations that society will demand of its citizens. It is like sending a kid to play chess without being properly informed about tactics. He will repeatedly get blindsided by the unexpected because he doesn't even know that the unexpected exists.
It can also be compared to letting some alien from another planet figure things out in our Earth culture as he goes along. Silly comparison? Not at all. Children have just arrived here. They are not familiar with what is required and obviously need guidance in in order to avoid running into serious trouble just as an extraterrestrial alien suddenly on our planet would.
In short, a permissive parent is sowing the seeds of failure in the child. He is crippling him by making him unable to think properly. By permitting him to be his own guide in a complex world into which he has just arrived and needs guidance.
The observed negative effects of this type of parenting are outlined in the article found here:
