Avascular Necrosis of the Hip
Necrosis means death. Which means that your hip- joint dies. Yikes! Never had heard of this condition until it was mentioned at the senior discussion forum. Today we have a way to treat this condition. But imagine what would have happened to people in the past who had absolutely no idea what was going on. and no way to counteract it.
Neither was I aware that an injury to the hip could lead to it. Otherwise I would have been far more concerned about the hip injuries from falls and the pain that it produced. So this is an example of how being ignorant can prove very detrimental.

Avascular Necrosis of the Hip

Condition in which the blood supply to the femoral head gets disrupted, leading to the death of bone tissue

Symptoms include pain in the hip, groin, thigh, knee, and/or buttocks
•
Treatment includes physical therapy, medication, surgery, stem cell implantation, hyperbaric oxygen therapy
