The Expression: Blacks and Latinos is Racist
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afro%E2%80%93Latin_Americans
I imagine folks who go about constantly using this term not finding anything racist about the expression at all. Right? However, upon closer examination, it definitely is racist. Why? Simple! Because it disqualifies Afro Latinos, who in many cases have a much purer black lineage than the heavily-mixed with North European African American blacks, from identifying as such based on nationality or culture.
Because of Nationality and Culture?
Now, if indeed nationality and culture disqualifies people from being black, as is constantly and publicly being done with Latinos, then why don't you USA folks use the expressions, Arabs and blacks, English and blacks, French and blacks, Gypsies and blacks etc. Why aren't those terms ever used? The reason is simple. It's because it conveys a purposeful exclusion based on culture or nationality, and there really isn't a legitimate basis to do so.
Now, of course the same can be applied to any other race such as using the terms Whites and Latinos, East Asians and Latinos, Native Americans and Latinos. Which of course is also incorrect since a Latino can be a member of any of these groups. So why be disqualify them simply because they are Latinos unless there is a racist basis for it?
A Legitimate Racial Basis?
Which begs the question: Is there indeed a Legitimate Racial Basis for disqualifying all Latinos as Black, White, Native American, or East Asian by default? No! Absolutely not! Why? Simple! Because there are millions of Latinos who legitimately qualify as belonging to these groups.
So it is indeed being blatantly racist to go about constantly disqualifying them from there racial heritage simply because they were not born in the USA, and just happen to be culturally Latinos.
