How Nominal Christians Justify being Devilish.
I this noticed this glaring discrepancy between what was being claimed and behavior in the following two ways:
1. As I began to study the history of Christianity
2. As I associated with people claiming to be Christians
Yes, as a child I had encountered my Pentecostal aunt's voodoo like antics, while vociferously claiming to be possessed by Jesus, the most righteous man that have ever walked the Earth, and behaving like some monster straight out of a horror flick. But I had not assumed that this was common among the majority of those claiming Christianity.
Of course the historical records proved otherwise via revealing devilish church members who gloated as people were being roasted alive in public squares, who fed Native America babies to war dogs, who participated in internecine religious wars during which they savagely slaughtered one another while claiming Christianity. Also, the negative experiences with church members reflecting Satanic personalities instead of Christ's further impressed me.
Gradually I began to wonder exactly how these professed Christians were justifying their un-Christian behaviors and discovered the following:
After joining the JWs, I began to hear it all the time whenever their glaringly devilish behavior was brought to their attention and they began invariably refusing to apologize. "We are only imperfect." they would always utter.
Well, yes, that is certainly true. Because of imperfection, we humans are indeed susceptible to irrationality and flawed behavior. However, it gradually became clear to me that this fact was just a convenient excuse for sinful behavior. It went something like this:
1. We are imperfect and should not be expected to be anything other= JWs
2. We should never be held accountable for devilish behavior because we are forgiven via Christ's Ransom Sacrifice = Non JWs
So why worry? In fact, why even try to be Christ like at all?
Unfortunately, such an attitude goes complete contrary to what we are told is expected from Christians, that Christians should closely imitate Jesus and that behaving in a manner contrary to how Jesus did, identifies the persons as God's enemies and hypocrites.

1 Peter 2:21-22 ESV
For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps. He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth.
John 14:15 ESV If you love me, you will keep my commandments.
