Latino Mestizos Tagged as White and Asians During Beatings
First, let me clarify what is meant by Mestizo. The category of Mestizo refers to the mixture between white Europeans and Native Americans. Although in Latin America the initial admixture was between Spaniards and native Americans, this gradually changed with the arrival of other Europeans, from Germany, Portugal, France, Italy, Poland, England, etc.
The usual appearance is one in which the typical East Asiatic-like Native American facial physical characteristics predominate. Although, of course, there are the few exceptions in which the European physical trains are predominant. In such cases, the person might be considered white. However, the category of Latino remains intact regardless of physical appearance.
Now, the reason I mention this is because there is a growing trend on the Internet to classify women who have light skin, as being white regardless of their Asiatic or Native American facial features. Please note that in Mexico, the vast Majority of such persons consider themselves Mestizos, and only 15 percent of the Mexican population views itself as white. So they certainly do not expect others to categorize them in that way.
Why is this now being done? Also, why is it being done by African Americans only in reference to fights between African Americans and Latinos? Well, perhaps to convey the impression that there is no violence being directed against the Latinos in the USA by African Americans?
Now, that would certainly be nice. Unfortunately, that is not so. Sadly, there indeed is great tension between these two communities, violence does occur, and tagging the victims as white or as Asian, will not hide that very glaring fact.
No, I am not making stuff up. I am merely stating what the statistics indicate and what is generally a well- known fact. Especially in such areas as the South- West and in Florida, where if a Latino wanders into an African American neighborhood, the Latino or Latina risks being killed or jumped as I was because of being identified as a Cuban when I was born in Puerto Rico.
No questions were asked, because obviously, it made absolutely no difference. The word "white" was mentioned along with the word Cuban, before the sudden, and totally unprovoked beating started.
Well, now I see the white and Asiatic excuses being used against these Mestizo Latinos on the Interned, and it demands some kind of clarifying response. No, these erroneous classifications aren't fooling anyone.
