David was not an emperor. Israel was not an Empire.
There is a video on youtube which describes the kingdom of Israel as an empire and then begins to point out that there is no archaeological evidence of an empire under king David. The problem is that the Bible doesn't describe the Twelve-Tribe kingdom of Israel as an empire nor does it ever call David an emperor. That's why Jesus apostles asked him if he was restoring the kingdom-not the empire.
Acts 1:6 Then they gathered around him and asked him, "Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?"
An empire consists of different nations under foreign rule of an emperor.

True, they entered Canaan under command to conquer, but the kingdoms they conquered ceased to exist and they were prohibited from forming any kind of militarily or political alliances with them due to their false worship.
As for the Kingdoms of Moab, Ammon and Edom east of the Jordan, they were to be left unmolested because they were descendants of Lot and Edom, two people closely related to Israel, and had been given that land by God.
Edom, Moab, and Ammon In History
The Biblical people called by the names above once occupied the territory we know today as Jordan, the nation due east of Israel. Not many people realize that Edom, Moab, and Ammon were given their homelands by God himself (Deut. 2:5, 9, 19) just like Israel was. And just like Israel was told to clear the land west of the Jordan River of the people who lived there at the time, Edom, Moab, and Ammon were told to perform the same service for God on the Eastern side (Deut. 2:10-12, 20-22).

Who were the Edomites Moabites and Ammonites?
Who were the Edomites? In the Bible, the Edomites are the descendants of Esau, Jacob’s twin and Isaac’s oldest son (Genesis 36)
Who were the Moabites? In the Bible, the Moabites are said to have descended from Moab, the son of Lot and his oldest daughter (Genesis 19:37).
Who were the Ammonites? In the Bible, they are described as being descendants of Ben-ammi, who was the son of Lot (Abraham’s nephew) and Lot’s younger daughter (Genesis 19:38)

At first the twelve tribes recognized only God as their king. Moses as an intermediary who later appointed other men to help him. Later, after entering Canaan, they asked for a human. Tghe first Saul and the second was David, followed by Solomon, then his son Rehoboam during which time the kingdom was divided into the two tribe kingdom of Judah and Benjamin with Jerusalem as its capital and the Ten Tribe northern kingdom under Jeroboam with Samaria as its capital.
With this division arose religious apostasy of the northern ten-tribe kingdom and it subsequent conquest by Assyria under Assyrian emperor Sennacherib and deportation of its people to Mesopotamia. The Southern Two- Tribe kingdom would suffer a similar faith due to religious unfaithfulness by the hand of Babylon, under Babylonian king Belshazzar.
So since there was never an Israelite Empire nor emperor, why that video chooses to refer to ancient Israel as an empire is really beyond me.
