Reptilicus
In an ancient glacier, a section of prehistoric lizard tail is discovered and then flown to a Copenhagen laboratory to be stored for future study. But the reptilian tissue is mishandled and the specimen thaws revealing to scientists that it possesses powerful regenerative qualities. This invincible beast from the past becomes fully regenerated and Reptilicus goes on an unstoppable rampage through Denmark. It can fly, swim, and walk and has impenetrable scales, making it seemingly impossible to kill. How far will it go and what will it take to stop the carnage?
Invincible...Indestructible! What was this awesome BEAST born 50 million years out of time?
1961 Danish-American giant monster film about a prehistoric reptile. The film was produced by Cinemagic and Saga Studio and separate versions were released in Denmark and in the United States, with American International Pictures handling distribution for the latter.
Director: Poul Bang
Cast: Ann Smyrner, Mini Heinrich, Dirch Passer, Marlies Behrens.
Trivia:
This is Denmark's first, last and only giant monster film as of this date.
Two versions of this film were made: a Danish-language version directed by Poul Bang, and an English-language version directed by the film's producer, Sidney W. Pink. All of the actors in the film were in both versions, except Bodil Miller, who could not speak English; Marlies Behrens dubbed her character. The head of American International Pictures, Samuel Z. Arkoff, said the dialogue had to be re-dubbed because he felt that the "sing-song Scandinavian accents" would have U.S. audiences laughing. Pink threatened to sue AIP. After Pink had other industry professionals watch his version of the film, the lawsuit was dropped and AIP released an edited and re-dubbed English-language version.
