Constant insults during Chess games
When I first learned chess, i was under the impression that it was a cerebral game dependent on pure skill. However, once I started attending the local chess club later in life, I gradually realized that at a club level, this was not so.
Instead, a significant number of players depended on distracting the opponent in order to gain an unfair advantage leading to victory. Now, noticed that various methods were used in order to accomplish this. One way of distracting was blowing clouds of cigarette smoke in the opponent's direction.
Another was constantly drumming of the fingers on the table while the opponent was trying to think. Yet another was to keep up this semi-whispered whistling sound. Another was to keep conversing with other players as the opponent tried to concentrate.
Complaining about it almost got me into a fist fight with the opponent who began making racist comments and the possibility of all of them beating me to a pulp became very real. This happened on three separate occasions when I objected to the unfair tactics. So I finally opted not to attend the local chess clubs involved any longer and don't regret it.
Well, I still strongly disagree. You see, to me, winning via distraction doesn't prove that they are a good chess players. To me it merely proves that they are good at hurling insults. So since that is very obviously the case, why not simply have insult-hurling contests instead, and leave the noble game of chess out of it?

Trash Talking
Curiously, I now notice that this same distraction via insults trend is very popular on the informal over-the-board games posted on YouTube. They very fondly refer to it as trash-talking, and many chess players admire and praise the trash-talkers for how effective they are in hurling insults. They also say that such constant trash-talking makes watching the games far more interesting. Well, I still strongly disagree. You think I am being overly sensitive or else exaggerating on how obnoxious this trend is? OK. Then watch the following video where this adolescent male brat trash talks while playing against Anna Cramling.
