Are the Seven Minutes of Terror Absolutely Necessary?
Everyone familiar with the planned voyage to mars has heard about those infamous seven minutes of terror when the spaceship will attempt to reduce its Martian landing speed by using the Martian atmosphere as a brake.
We have also all read about how absolutely necessary it is to get everything precisely right, because the slightest inaccuracy in attempting that vital maneuver would result in the instant destruction of the spaceship and everyone on board.
But is it really necessary as we have been led to believe? Is there really no alternative choice that would eliminate such a danger and significantly reduce the chances of a disaster? Well, according to a recent video I watched, there certainly is.
Surprisingly, it is a rather simply solution that is well within the capability to accomplish. It is the landing on one of the Martian moons, and using it as a fuel resupply station to prepare the ship for a much safer Martian landing attempt since it could then employ it powerful rockets to reduce its descent velocity.
So the question that naturally emerges when learn about this alternative is why would anyone insist on using the more dangerous approach when a far safer one is so readily available?
