Assuming Churchgoers or Religionists Are Good
Yes, many of us do tend to assume that people claiming to be followers of Christ, and who are regular churchgoers must be decent trustworthy people. After all, why else would they be claiming to be Christ's flowers and seeking biblical knowledge?
Now, this unqualified trust is more common among younger humans who have not as yet experienced human hypocrisy, or who are refusing to acknowledge it because it requires that mankind be viewed in a negative way. So since they prefer to perceive a world where people can be trusted, and are usually honest when claiming Christianity, they tend to ignore all the compelling evidence that indicates otherwise.
No, the compelling evidence isn't just personal experiences which provides justifiable reasons to doubt the sincerity. The compelling evidence is also very clearly displayed in the record of human history itself which offers many poignant examples of just how hypocritically-religious human beings can be.
What examples? Well, we have the Protestant Reformation wars between Catholics and Protestants during which time members of both groups slaughtered one another like cattle on the battlefield over theological disagreements, and even went as far as torturing each other to extract confessions so they could feel justified in roasting the supposedly guilty persons, such as the Theologian Servetus, alive at public squares where other so-called Christians went in order to be entertained by the agony of the dying. We also have the savagery that which Europeans systematically inflicted for centuries on black African slaves and upon Native Americans. All by people claiming to be followers of Christ and who were also very regular churchgoers.
In short, claiming to be a Christian and regularly attending church means absolutely nothing unless the behavior of those claiming to be Christian and attending church reflects the personality of the one whom they claim to be following-Jesus Christ.
Otherwise it must be considered for what it very obviously is, a very cunningly camouflaged devil worship
