Human Hibernation for Long Duration Space Journeys One of the obstacles to manned spaceflights to other planets is the long time that it takes to get there at our present speeds. For example, the journey to Mars will take approximately six months. That means that maybe eight astronauts will have to tolerate one another for that period of time while being forced to deal with the tedium of being locked into such restricted quarters in extremely close proximity to one another.. But if the crew-members of long-duration journeys could hibernate for most of the trip, then enduring the on-board conditions would be much easier since the perception of time slowly passing would be either be totally absent or else drastically reduced. Unfortunately, at present time, placing humans in long-duration hibernation isn't possible. But small advancements are being made which seem to promise to make it feasible it the near future. The video posted below describes these advancements and how the medical profession , in its efforts to treat the sick, has contributed to them.
BTW One comical aspect of the video is the mention of the possibility of people travelling on a trans-generational ship, suddenly seeing another ship from Earth warp past them, after they had spent a almost a whole lifetime there. If they had been in hibernation, the narrator says, then at least they would not have to experience the humiliation of the people on the warp drive ship smiling smugly or thumbing their noses at them as they whiz by. LOL
