Negligent Spiritual Shepherds
What is a spiritual Shepherd? According to the Bible a spiritual shepherd is one who guides worshipers of God in making the right decisions, decisions which will keep the worshiper on the road t life.
It is a leader who watches out for those under his watch so that they are not in danger of falling victims of Satan’s schemes.
Such a shepherd is expected to respond to any sign that a member of his flock is in danger and immediately take action to offer assistance. He might notice that one of his flock is drifting into dangerous territory where wolves abound. That the member of his flock is adopting worldly ways. So a responsible shepherd provides help for that member of his flock as his position as shepherd demands. It is a noble responsibility which requires constant vigilance and dedication based on genuine caring and love for those entrusted to his care. In fact, Jesus mentioned how important it was when he spoke to the Apostle Peter after the resurrection and told him three times to take care of his sheep.
John 21:
5 When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more
than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” Jesus said
to him, “Feed my lambs.”16A second time he said to him, “Simon son of
John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.”
Jesus said to him, “Tend my sheep.”17He said to him the
third time, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter felt hurt because he
said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” And he said to him, “Lord, you
know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep.

Because they bear such an important responsibility they are judged very severely when they fail because of uncaring negligenceto their duties.
Jeremiah 23:1
1“Woe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of My pasture!” declares the LORD. 2Therefore, this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says about the shepherds who tend My people: “You have scattered My flock and driven them away, and have not attended to them. Behold, I will attend to you for the evil of your deeds, declares the LORD.…
Zechariah 11:17
"Woe to the worthless shepherd Who leaves the flock! A sword will be on his arm And on his right eye! His arm will be totally withered And his right eye will be blind."

This scattering happens when shepherds purposefully mislead their flocks into dangerous territory or look the other way when they know that their flock is in spiritual danger. They fail to provide biblical advice to those they observe going astray or might even encourage them to go astray while holding the shepherding position because they themselves have gone astray and do not qualify to hold that position any longer if indeed they ever did. Such shepherds have instigated bloodshed as they did during the Crusades or during the modern World Wars where each one prayed to God for victory. Blessing weapons and offering moral support to soldiers who were carrying out evil deeds against the innocent. This is not surprising since the Bible describes it.
2 Corinthians 11
14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.
It is definitely a sad thing to behold persons pontificating as shepherds of God's flock while seriously neglecting their duties. Especially when their negligence involves a member of their flock in a high political position who is clearly displaying a serious need for religious guidance and absolutely none is provided. Such self-proclaimed uncaring shepherds will have to give an accounting to God for their claims and for the blatant negligence of their duties.
