The Irony of the Longevity of the Greenland Shark
The Greenland shark is estimated of reaching 500 years of age.
The Greenland shark has the longest known lifespan of all vertebrate species (estimated to be between 250 and 500 years), en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greenland_shark
This has caused scientists to study its genes in order to understand its longevity and by that means perhaps enhance their understanding of the human aging process. Of course atheistic humans are impressed by this ability since we are extremely limited in comparison. However, humans who are familiar with the biblical account also find this ability ironic. Why so? Well, because the Bible tells us that mankind was originally designed to live forever. Yet, today we are considered old at the age of 50, and if we manage to reach the ages of 90 or 100, we are considered extremely long-lived.
Now, for a perfect creature who was designed to live forever, according to the Biblical account as described in the book of Genesis, it seems rather quaint that we are now so extremely limited. After all, 100 years is an very small number in comparison with the capacity to live forever which exceeds billions of years.
So when I believers in the biblical account observe a mere shark, who was not designed to live forever, reaching 500 years of age, as this species of shark does, they cannot help but find it to be extremely ironic.

Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
