It was the Earth year 2222, and Mankind had spread to the far-flung regions of the cosmos and had encountered sentient insectoid extraterrestrials known as the Skcalb, who were technologically similar, albeit far more numerous.
Initially there was fear of the unknown. Who were these creatures? What were they capable of? But soon, that fear was set aside after, territorial treaties had been established recognizing boundaries, and a peaceful coexistence had been established. The Skcalb, scarlet-colored insect-like creatures similar to ants, but approx. the size of adult humans, had seemed peaceful enough for decades. That was until the ascension into power of Egavas soon to be called The Cruel, an insectoid whose only thoughts were the violent subjugation of the weak.
At first, subjugation was limited to the weak among his own species, But eventually, it began to include others. Soon, the neighboring peaceful Arachnid planetary system approx. six light years distant from the insectoid home-world, had been annexed, and their non-military industries refocused on supplying Egavas the Cruel's insectoid fleets with interstellar battle cruisers, his planetary infantry invasion forces with armor and assault weaponry of high caliber.
Being unprepared for war, since human primary-efforts had been exploration and colonization, Earth planetary authorities attempted to ignore it all. After all, one planetary invasion in his own sphere of influence posed Earth no threat. But as the insectoid annexations approached the humanoid interstellar borders, concern had grown urgently intense, and frantic preparations for a possible military encounter were initiated.
But before full preparation could be achieved, insectoid interstellar fleets began their probing incursions into humanoid planetary systems, and after ten Earth years of increasing tensions, the dreaded war had finally begun. At first, the hastily- prepared Earth fleets were easily defeated, and annexations of Earth's colonial planets commenced in earnest.
Of course, this was extremely disturbing. But far more disturbing was the insectoid policy of total human extermination that Egavas the Cruel, was implementing. Taking no prisoners seemed to be his motto and millions of humanoids began to flee at his approach. Refugees from Earth's colonies began seeking refuge on their home world, Earth, and the horrific sordid details of the insectoid human-annihilation-policies were made known
The more Earth authorities learned about Egavas's criminal policies, the more determined they became to resist by all means possible, and the insectoid humanoid interplanetary war became a long and arduous struggle which brought Earth perilously close to defeat. Egavas the Cruel demanded unconditional surrender and many humanoid planets had obliged. But Earth's humanity refused and finally after fifteen long Earth years, emerged battered but victorious.
The Arachnid rebellion and their stubborn refusal to cooperate any longer contributed to the Insectoid demise. Suddenly insectoids could no longer replace their losses, and their invasion forces became isolated, and were defeated piecemeal.
Of course, fearing capture and human reprisals, Egavas the Cruel, immediately fled as far from Earth's sphere of influence as possible, finally taking refuge in one of the Milky Way's Galaxy's globular clusters above the galactic plane, alone and abandoned by all his once fanatically faithful followers. But for him, as with all tyrants of his ilk, it would not be that simple.
Yes, it was finally over, but millions of innocent human lives had been lost, children, the aged, the infirm, all noncombatants, due to his ruthless military policies of this Insectoid leader who had made the extermination of the human race his top priority. Such a crime could be neither forgiven nor forgotten and the thunderous cries for retribution were heeded. As a consequence, no expenses or efforts were spared in tracking him down. within the globular cluster he was relentlessly hunted from planet to planet, and from star system to star-system, until he was finally apprehended, imprisoned and brought to justice.
His trial was arranged to take place on Alpha Centauri B, and would be observed via sub-space transmission by all technologically capable societies.
On the appointed date, the insectoid/human post-interplanetary war-crime trial had commenced, and Egavas the Cruel, had been escorted by four heavily- armed blue-skinned, Alpha Centurion humanoid guards into the crowded courtroom. Outside could be heard the roar of the crowds asking for his execution and attempting to gain entry to do it themselves. But such could not be allowed by a civilized society and so his safety from, their aggression had been assured.
Egavas had changed drastically, and everyone who had beheld him as he was ushered in noticed the vast difference. Formerly, he cut a majestic figure of power and authority. He had always been regally attired in full resplendent body armor, and always carrying a disintegrator, while arrogantly shouting commands involving the annihilation of human noncombatants.
Now he walked with slumped insectoid shoulders and lowered yellow, compound-eyed gaze, with all six of his once dreadful insectoid appendages shackled. He was attired in drab gray loose-fitting prison garb that all common criminal wore.
After silently gazing at him with utter contempt for a full minute, the elderly male human judge seated at an anti gravity elevated platform announced in an electronically-amplified stentorian voice:
"The accused, General Egavas known as The Cruel, is being charged with attempting the extermination of the human species via a military policy characterized by cruelty. How does the defendant plead?
"But it is impossible for us to be speciesists! We are Kcalb," Egavas responded via a multi-linguistic inter-species translator that was strapped to his head.
Those present, who had personally witnessed his many atrocities, began to murmur at his bold albeit ridiculous response. Being subjected to injustices doesn't magically render the victims incapable of committing the same crimes. Furthermore such a response expressed absolutely no remorse for his heartless unspeakable cruelties.
His arrogant response only served to convince them even further that he needed termination in the same manner that he had so casually terminated millions of innocent others, and that nothing that he might say would prevent them from providing the eyewitness testimony that would seal his fate.
They watched with deep satisfaction as he now stood humbly dressed in the gray asteroidal-prison garb with insectoid head bowed, gazing morosely at the courtroom's black onyx polished floor, yellow compound eyes no longer fearfully intimidating, multiple appendages, with which he had personally torn many humans limb from limb, in shackles, and helplessly waiting to face whatever whimsical justice would be decided that he deserved.
Yet, his only excuse remained this:
"It is impossible for Skcalbs to be anti-species because we are Skcalbs. We have a history of once being victims of it. So we could never inflict the same suffering on others with that same motive."
"A Skcalb can never be anti-species. It is a biological impossibility!" his insectoid legal defenders were also claiming. It was to be the identical unconvincing song that he would be singing effusively as they unceremoniously dragged him down the long, dark, musty corridor to where he would be executed.
Those were also the very last ridiculously illogical words that he uttered before his execution via decapitation was finally carried out in the great execution chamber, to the resounding cheers and applause of all those observers who were present, and who had been personally affected by his cruelty.
