There is a very popular idea in certain sections of USA cultural societies, that the only reason why people are discriminated or avoided or shunned, is because of race. Strange! It seems to escape their notice that cultural difference is also a very important factor.
For example, the Irish were considered boorish and pestiferous when they began arriving in significant numbers and were discriminated against on that basis. They were also Catholic, and that went against the Protestant grain of The English and Germanic people who preceded them.
Then we have the Gypsies of Spain. When they first arrived, they were greeted in a friendly manner. But then they got on the King of Spain's bad side by lying about a need for assistance for political reasons and borrowing money from the king and disappearing with it. From that point on they have been discriminated against in Spain
In a similar manner, the discrimination against certain other groups in the USA is not merely based on a dislike for their color but might involve such things as perceiving the group as a cultural threat. For example. Latinos are perceived by many as threatening American culture because of their stubborn persistence to speak Spanish.
Another factor that negatively influences an opinion of a group might be the group's overrepresentation in the crime statistics. If the group is overrepresented, then of course that will influence how other groups react to their presence.
To ignore such things and merely respond that they don't like us because of our color, is just plain silly.
