The twin sisters, Martha and Maria, both fair-skinned, blue-eyed, blond-haired siblings, had become known for always being together and people always marveled at how well they got along. True, they were sisters, but how many sisters constantly quarrel and virtually hate each other? Plenty! And sometimes hatred between such siblings can become very murderously intense due to envy. After all, Cain killed his brother Abel for exactly such a reason.
Yet Martha and Maria were not those types of sisters. They loved one another intensely and were constantly by each other’s side lending one another all the moral support needed in moments of great emotional stress. Also, an offense against one was always taken personally by the other, as if the insult had been to them both.
Not that their personalities were identical. Not at all! Each had her own subtle preferences in attire and in entertainment and in a host of other such things which made each one a unique individual. For example, one sister liked classical music while the other loved to listen to acid rock. One was outgoing or extroverted while the other was introverted and tended to be shy. Where one loved scary movies involving blood and gore, the other cringed at the violence and preferred films which were spiritual and peaceful in nature. Where one loved flashy clothing, the other liked to dress conservatively.
Religiously, it was the same. One twin believed in an almighty God, the creator of both heaven and earth who had an intense benevolent interest in human lives, and who had sent his only begotten Son to die for our sins so that we could attain eternal life, while the other was a fanatical atheist who viewed the universe as a dog-eat-dog realm where only the strongest survived. Yet one was always with the other as the other attended church and the other tolerated others wild proclamations concerning the godless origin of the universe and the belief in a sudden abiogenesis and a godless evolution.
They also differed greatly in the Romance area. One sister felt strongly attracted to dark, tall men, while the other preferred the tall blond light-skinned North European physical type. But for the sake of sisterly harmony, they tolerated one another’s preferences with what others considered an admirable sisterly patience.
Martha was fascinated with space travel and expressed a strong desire to someday visit the planet Mars or some other far-flung world in our solar system or beyond, while Maria was deeply fascinated by the mysteries of the largely unexplored deep sea such as the Pacific Ocean’s Mariana Trench. Whenever one sister sickened, the other also invariably felt ill. Whenever one sister grieved, the other was always there to offer her heartfelt condolences and moral support..
People marveled at how well they got along, Martha and Maria, the conjoined twins.
