Does the Bible teach that animals reason and speak by themselves?
The question might seem unnecessary, unfortunately there are those who are in the habit of mocking the Bible, and one of the things they say is that the Bible is a silly book written for gullible simple-minded people because it teaches that animals can reason and talk like humans.
But is this true? Does the Bible teach that all animals can reason and talk? Not at all! The Bible clearly identifies the messages as proceeding from a supernatural source and not from the animal itself.
Yet, Bible haters try to make it sound as if the Bible is overflowing with stories of animals constantly holding conversations with humans. The truth is that in the entire Bible, there are only two accounts of such an-unusual thing happening..
The first, and the one which most people are familiar with, is found in the book of Genesis where Eve is approached by a serpent and is told lies about God and his motives
Later on, this serpent is identified as Satan the Devil:
Revelation 12:9
9 And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.
Revelation 20:2 ESV
2 And he seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years,
9 And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.
Revelation 20:2 ESV
2 And he seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years,
The Second one, which is recorded in the book of Numbers, is identified as being caused by God
In Numbers 22—24, (“Then the Lord opened the donkey’s mouth” (verse 28), and it rebuked the prophet for the beatings. “Then the Lord opened Balaam’s eyes, and he saw the angel of the Lord standing in the road with his sword drawn” (verse 31). The angel told Balaam that he certainly would have killed Balaam had not the donkey spared his life. Ironically, a dumb beast had more wisdom than God’s prophet. The angel then repeated to Balaam the instruction that he was only to speak what God told him to speak concerning the Hebrews (verses 33–35).

So In both cases, the animal is merely a means through which a superior intelligence communicates. Which means that there is really no justifiable reason for anyone who reads the Bible to reach the conclusion that it is teaching that animals can talk.
