NASA Attempts to Deviate an Asteroid off Course
So finally they are taking the impact of an asteroid on Earth seriously! Which is, of course good news to everyone living here. After all, the crater evidence indicated t asteroid impacts are indeed a reality and that the effects can be very devastating. In fact, just recently one entered our atmosphere in Russia and even though it disintegrated, it did shatter windows and injured some people.
Another one once believed to have exploded over Siberia but now believed to have skimmed Earth's atmosphere, did far more damage but fortunately it was above a very sparsely populated are. Nevertheless, it flattened the forest trees for miles. That event is now believe to have been far more dangerous than previously assumed. astronomy.com/news/2020/10/tunguska-explosion-in-1908-caused-by-asteroid-grazing-earth
So its good that NASA has taken preventive steps to minimize the danger of this happening again.
Yes, very true, NASA has previously sent spacecraft to intercept asteroids before to examine and explore . But never as an attempt to deviate one off-course. Now, the utility of this attempt is to protect the Earth fro any asteroid that might be heading our way. If it can be intercepted and knocked of course, then a lot of damage can be avoided. The mission was successful. Now the examination of its effect on its trajectory will be analyzed.
