Putin Escalates War, Calling Up 300,000 Reservists
Why doesn't his behavior surprise me? Why doesn't the Russian people's enthusiastic and almost fanatical willingness to cooperate with Putin surprise me either? Never doubt that this guy and his people are very willing to take this even to a nuclear holocaust. They obviously are. If there were any significant degree of opposition to his warlike policies, then this would have been stopped long ago. In fact, it would never have started to begin with. But it isn't restricted to Putin. Sadly, this mutual destruction scenario has repeated itself throughout human history and some have hypothesized that mankind has self annihilation tendencies. If indeed true, perhaps finally now, after all the previous frustrations, this pernicious inward tendency to self-destruct as a species via mutual annihilation will be be finally satisfied
My response to other comments:
Putin is what? A old man? Well, being old does reduce the fear of death since death at that stage death is perceived as approaching quickly anyway and arriving at any moment. So the more the merrier attitude might easily be adopted by such an aged person and might very well become the preferred modus operandi.
You have hopes of the Russian people rising up and stopping this guy you say? That would indeed be a very pleasant scenario. Unfortunately, the Russian people aren't giving it the same importance that the West is. Instead, the vast majority of Russians seem to be going right along with him and providing him with unwavering moral support.
The extra troops will just be cannon fodder you say? Well, maybe so. However, if indeed they prove to be cannon fodder as you say, then Putin is obviously very willing to take it to the next level. So it seems to be a no-win situation no matter how we look at it.
