Half Latinos who prefer Their African American side
Sammy Davis Junior, was born on December 8, 1925, in the Harlem section of Manhattan in New York City, the son of African-American entertainer and stage performer Sammy Davis Sr. (1900–1988) and tap dancer and stage performer Elvera Sanchez (1905–2000). During his lifetime, Davis stated that his mother was Puerto Rican and born in San Juan. However, in the 2003 biography In Black and White, author Wil Haygood wrote that Davis's mother was born in New York City to Cuban parents who were of Afro-Cuban background, and that Davis claimed he was Puerto Rican because he feared anti-Cuban backlash would hurt his record sales.

Comment: Sammy would occasionally identify as Puerto Rican for fear of being identified as Cuban. However, his constant misrepresentation of Puerto Ricans as being merely blacks with accents indicates that he took no pride in such identification, and disrespected the Latino culture. His marrying only North European women, also speaks volumes.

Comment: well, we see absolutely no mention of the maternal Latino surname Sunchita, now do we? Just a proud display of his father's name: Degrasse Tyson. Neither does he ever even mention his mom nor his Latino side in passing.
So obviously, he prefers to keep such an association hush-hush. Unfortunately, this seems to be the case with most offspring of marriages
between African Americans and Latinos.
