Latinos Cooperate in their own Discrimination
Ever hear the claim that Latinos can never be white nor black, but that all of them are brown? This is a very popular concept among both Afro and Anglo Americans, and they are almost fanatical in their assertions that it is true. Now, one would expect that the group being misrepresented in that way would strive to clarify the matters so that the truth might be know.
Unfortunately, what we have instead are Caribbean Latinos, especially those referred to as New Yoricans, constantly boasting about their mixed ancestry on YouTube. Now, there is nothing wrong in being curious about our ancestors. We all have this natural desire to know who our ancestors were and where they came from. However, there are circumstances in which such a public displays could very easily play into the hands of racists who constantly strive to misrepresent all Latinos under one category, and will unscrupulously use such videos as evidence for their racist conjectures.
Naturally, Caribbean Latinos who don't reside in the United States, might be oblivious to the discriminatory trend that such videos unwittingly support and which encourages the racist anti-Latino agenda of unceremoniously dumping all Latinos under the BROWN category.
Now, please don't get me wrong, there are definitely Brown Latinos, millions of them, in fact. However, there are also millions of Latinos who are legitimately white, or legitimately black and don't fall under that category
In short, it justifies the Browning of all Latinos by appearing to confirm the racist allegations, and in that way perpetuates a pernicious bias that harasses and discriminates against a significant percentage of the Latino population, by attempting to deprive them if their rightful heritage.
So if you as a Latino don't want to encourage this discriminatory policy against your own ethnic group in the USA, then please refrain from constantly posting your genetics results on YouTube and your bragging about extremely racially mixed you are. Please keep in mind that Afro and Anglo Americans are not doubting that you are mixed. They are 100% Ok with that. What they are NOT OK with is any Latino claiming that he or she is genuinely white or genuinely black. That's where they are fanatically drawing the line and it's very ironic that certain Caribbean Latinos are enthusiastically helping them in convincing the world that they are right.
