A Cornered Animal?
Cornered animals do not really have any choice. They either fight or die. So they usually choose to fight with a desperation that sometimes allows them to escape or else to kill the predator or it injure enough so it can escape. So a cornered animal is considered to be most dangerous when cornered or feels cornered. Humans no different and are very likely to react in the same desperate manner. Just recently, in a YouTube commentary section, Putin was compared with a cornered animal if he finds himself frustrated in his attempt to invade the Ukraine.
The analogy is of course valid, except for one huge and very significant difference. Unfortunately, in the case of a cornered animal, the cornered animal lashes out at a predator or kills it. Also, in the case of cornered humans usually the aggressor or aggressors are involved. However, in this case, due to his access to supersonically delivered nuclear weapons, the cornered human, Putin, is capable of taking the entire world with him into oblivion if he feels cornered in a similar fashion.
A very grim reality indeed! But what choice does the West really have? To sit on its hands and watch as a nation is savaged? Furthermore, what guarantee does it have that this noninvolvement will not encourage further military aggression? It did in the case of Hitler when England and France stood by as he annexed one territory after another. In short, we are facing a A genuine dilemma typical of a nightmarish situation that most of us considered very improbable just a few months ago.
Was it avoidable? Well, past and present USA leaders knew full-well that Russia's Putin was becoming increasingly frustrated over NATO expansion, and that such an expansion was a violation of a verbal agreement in relation to the dissolution of the Warsaw Pact. Yet they purposefully chose to totally ignore the possibility of pushing Putin, a man who had clearly displayed violent propensities, over the edge.
So now, what had once been totally unthinkable just several months ago when the Covid 19 pandemic had been our main concern, the annihilation of all life on Earth via a nuclear World War III, is suddenly looming over us as a very probable reality.
Ironically, and as usual, it is we the common people who had nothing to do with the decisions resulting in this situation who must bear the brunt of such the consequences of such careless policies, while those in charge of international decisions, smugly sit on their fat butts calmly considering their swift flight into well-stocked bomb shelters in case a nuclear war breaks out. As for the rest of us, well, I guess we will simply just have to fry while they watch.
