Pre WWII and Pre WWIII differences and similarities
Similar Hesitation to Intervene
During the years just prior to the Second World War, there was hesitation by England and France hesitated to react against Germany's aggressions because of a fear that it would lead to another World War.
Today we see a similar hesitation by NATO and the USA in relation to Russia's aggression towards the Ukraine the same reason the provocation of another World War a WWIII in which worldwide devastation of all life be unleashed.
Similar Sense of Impending Doom
Similar to WWI, this feeling of impending doom has been generated by what appears to be a person who seems mentally unstable and seems to deem human life of very little value. He has repeatedly demonstrated this by ordering his military forces to open fire on civilians, something that is considered a war crime.
Children, the infirm the elderly, women, all are fair game, as long as it promotes his territorial ambitions in relation to Ukraine. The cries of as profoundly disheartened mother who has just lost a newborn child to shrapnel doesn't move him to compassion. Neither do the vast multitudes that have been left homeless and have been suddenly forced to leave their homeland and relocate in foreign countries lest he heartlessly orders their execution.
Similar Megalomaniacal Leaders
Putin and Hitler are similar in many ways. Hitler seemed impervious to reasoning and to diplomatic appeasement efforts. Yes, Hitler too was approached in a civil manner and many concessions were granted in order to appease him and to avoid further bloodshed. But just as in the case of Putin, it only served to fuel his seemingly insatiable expansionist ambitions since he considered such concessions weaknesses of character, and weakness of character only encouraged his predatory tendencies. It wasn't until he finally attacked Poland that Hitler finally triggered a military response and even then he persisted. Eventually, after the loss of millions of lives, that rampaging egomaniac was finally subdued.
A very Crucial Difference
However, there is a very crucial difference. You see, during Hitler's rampaging, the existence of mankind was never an issue. True, cities such as Tokyo and Dresden, and Stalingrad were being levelled via incendiary-bomb carpet-bombing and, millions perished, but it was always assumed that mankind would always manage to survive as a species.
Now, unfortunately, survival of the human itself as a consequence of such a war race is an issue and it is a weapon that Putin uses in order to discourage any intervention.
Another Difference
This time also there is another factor that NATO and the USA takes into very serious consideration. It is the potential deployment of Russian supersonic nuclear armed rockets that cannot be intercepted before the reach their targets. Even worse, were he to strike preemptively, whatever he targets will be destroyed whether NATO and the USA responds or not-it will make not difference. Yes, the nuclear armed submarines the the USA has will indeed retaliate, but not before all his targets are hit. He announced the invention of these supersonic rockets four years ago and as yet NATO and the USA have not announced and effective way of stopping them before they reach their targets. So unlike the Wests intervention with Hitler which merely posed the threat of another World War, our intervention this time promises far more devastating consequences.
