If Eden is merely myth ....
It has become very popular among both clergy and laity to discredit the Genesis account by calling it mere myth. The question is whether such a theological position is indeed consistent with Christianity. If we consider the doctrinal importance that the Genesis account holds within Christian theology, then the answer must be no. The truth is that the rejection of the Genesis account as mere myth is anti-Christian and strikes at the very heart of Christianity for the following reasons.
1. It calls Jesus a liar because Jesus described Genesis as historical fact:
Jesus spoke of Adam, Moses, Noah, Jonah, Abraham and the events in Eden, and other events in Genesis such as the flood as real people and real historical events. So calling Genesis a mere myth would require that we view Jesus as either deluded or a liar and Christianity based merely on falsehood.
1 Peter 2:22 NIV "He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth."
2. It also calls tha Apostles liars because Peter. Paul, Jude, Luke, Mathew, John, specifically lent Genesis historical credence.
Peter and Jude speak of the preflood civilization that was wiped out as well as about the angelic rebellion which provoked it Both Luke and Matthew trace Jesus's geneology back to Adam. Paul repeatedly mentions Adam as the the one who brought mankind under sin. He also acknowledges the existence of Abraham and other historical figures such as Esau and Jacob which are mentioned in Genesis.
In fact, the entire geological record of Jesus tracing him back t0 Adam is provided.

Rejection of Genesis as historical fact demands that these writers also be tagged as either delusional or liars and their writings be deemed drivel.
3. It removes the basis for the theme of paradise lost to paradise regained.
[/b] If no earthly paradise was ever lost at Eden because neither Adam nor Eve eve existed. but are simply myth, then nothing need be regained and all the prophecies refering to a restoration are meaningless and the prophets delusional liars. So the book of Revelation must then be tagged as the ramblings of a delusional old man and the prophetic pronouncements as merely drivel.
Revelation 21:4He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death' or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.
It removes the need for redemption and a redeemer
If indeed the Genesis account is merely myth and mankind never suffered a fall from perfection, then there is was never a need no need for Jesus to have died on the cross for us. Yet all Christianity is based on that redemption.
John 1:29
The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!
The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!
5. It strikes at Jesus' authenticity as the Son of God by describing him as gullible and a propagator of mere myth.
If indeed Jesus was a misguided man who believed myth to be historical fact, then we must conclude that he was not the Son of God as we are told by the Bible. We must then see him as just a man who was misguided by his culture into believing fantasies and who felt't impelled to not only spread them but to commit suicide via spreading them in the full knowledge that he would be crucified.
1 John 4:9 9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. John 17:1,3
These five things alone should be considered serious reasons why Christians must be opposed to accepting the anti-biblical, demonically-inspired, propaganda.
