About Deviated Nasal Septums
I have been living with a deviated nasal septum for most of my life and it has proven to be a nuisance for two main reasons.
1. I have a hard time breathing since airflow is obstructed on the side where the septum bulges away from the bridge of the nose.
2. The struggle to inhale has produced the impression that I am sexually excited when all I am trying to do is stay alive by taking in sufficient oxygen.
Well, since I have been finally considering a surgical solution, I looked up the info on the Internet and found these two videos that explain what is involved in the surgical procedure.
One very important thing to keep in mind, however, is that surgeons tend to downplay the suffering that a simple procedure might inflict on a patient.
For example, one physician described the pain involved in a double inguinal hernia operation as just the area being sore when in fact it was veritably a living nightmare. The two insicions next to the pelvic bone felt as if the sharp edge of a red-hot knife were being pressed relentlessly against them. Getting out of bed felt like the lower abdomen was about to burst at the stitched seams. A little sore? Not by a long shot.
So when you listen to this calm methodical explanation that the good doctor provides, it is wise not to assume that the suffering involved is really negligible. It might very well be intense. Or it might not. Best to listen to those who have undergone the procedure and see what they experienced in order to be informed before giving your consent.
