Human Hibernation and Space Travel
If space travel were as easy as it is depicted in the Star Trek series, where space is warped and the speed of light limit is no longer what appears to be an insurmountable barrier, then of course, hibernation, or as it was once referred to, suspended animation, would be totally unnecessary.
However, since such technology is unavailable, then artificially-induced hibernation, in order to render the interstellar journeys bearable, would definitely come in handy. Just undergo the necessary procedure, go into a deep slumber, and before you know it you are there without having had to undergo the tedium involved in a regular journey involving perhaps years of being aware of the time that is slowly elapsing.
So articilally-induced-hibernation, as depicted in the film Passengers, where hundreds of people are unconsciously awaiting to be aroused when their journey is almost over, is the best option short of warping space itself.
Below are three videos which explore this concept.

Will Humans ever be able to Hibernate
