Jesus as Angel or Messenger or Angel of the Covenant
Malachi 3:1
Old Testament
1 Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the Lord of hosts.
Malachi 3:1
Old Testament
1 Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the Lord of hosts.
Many genuine and nominal Christians imagine that the word angel is describing some winged spirit creature. This causes them to frown upon anyone referring to Jesus as an angel since it seems to demote him to an inferior position. However, their anxiety is totally unjustified. You see, the Hebrew word angel, merely means messenger, and as Gods only begotten Son, Jesus did become God's primary messenger to mankind.

The messenger sent ahead of the Lord to prepare the way for the Lord mentioned in Malachi, was also referred to with the word angel, and was none other than John the Baptist. He admits to this himself as recorded in the following scriptures.
Mark 1:2
As it is written in Isaiah the prophet:
“Behold, I send My messenger ahead of You,
Who will prepare Your way;
“I am a voice of someone crying out in the wilderness, ‘Make the way of Jehovah straight,’ just as Isaiah the prophet said.”—John 1:19-23.
As it is written in Isaiah the prophet:
“Behold, I send My messenger ahead of You,
Who will prepare Your way;
“I am a voice of someone crying out in the wilderness, ‘Make the way of Jehovah straight,’ just as Isaiah the prophet said.”—John 1:19-23.
So when the Bible refers to Jesus as the angel of the Covenant, it is merely telling us that he was the messenger of the New Covenant which he would establish via shedding of his precious blood via death on the cross.
Jesus fulfills the following prophecies.
