Questions about the film Pitch Black
Pitch Black (titled The Chronicles of Riddick: Pitch Black on its DVD re-release) is a 2000 American science fiction action horror film co-written and directed by David Twohy. The film stars Vin Diesel, Radha Mitchell, Cole Hauser, and Keith David. Dangerous criminal Richard B. Riddick (Diesel) is being transported to prison in a spacecraft. When the spaceship is damaged by comet debris and makes an emergency crash landing on an empty desert planet, Riddick escapes. However, when predatory alien creatures begin attacking the survivors, Riddick joins forces with the surviving crew and other passengers to develop a plan to escape the planet.

The following issues might seem insconsequential to some moviegoers but for others, these issues are exceedingly distracting and significantly reduce the enjoyment by making the scenes unbelievable. It's hard not to ask if the directors are really that carelessly stupid or are they just assuming that we the audience are?
1. Why couldn't those large strong creatures easily pull captain Carolyn Fry back into the pit with that rope? Her grip on the rocks was too strong?
2. Why didn't the creatures attack Riddick as he lay on his back on the ground as they flew just inches from his body?
3. Why were the creatures pursuing them so closely despite the bright lights and then suddenlty began to keep their distance when the lights were almost totally gone?
4. Why was Riddick safe by going into the shadows after the fight with Johns while Johns wasn't.
5. If indeed the girl masquerading as the boy Jack was such a strong creature-magnet because she is menstruating, as Riddick said, then why did the bloodthirsty animals attack the Arab boys instead?
6. Why is the female captain so willing to give her life for Riddick? After all, he left her in that cave to die.
7. How did Fry make it from the cave all the way to the ship alone with almost no light to protect her?
8. What makes Fry think she can go back and help Riddick fight those creatures? She has no weapons!
9. How can dragging the girl behind them in order to keep all those creatures busy be suggested as a good idea? The creatures would dispose of her small body with a few bites.
10. How does Riddick know that the creatures won't damage the skiff's hull by permiting the creatures to get on top before departure? One of them had just recently pierced a metalic wall of the other ship in which they had taken temporary shelter. So Riddick calmly allowing a bunch of them on top of the skiff in order to ram them as they fall off during takeoff makes absolutely no sense. They would obviously begin hammering the hull with their pincers in order to get in.
