Earth's Atmosphere
Most of us spend all our lives at the bottom of our atmosphere, called the troposphere, where oxygen is plentiful, and the pressure per square inch on our body is approx. a comfortable 14.5 pounds.
True, there are people who live at higher altitudes, such as those in the Himalayas and the Andes, but their bodies compensate by producing more red-blood-cells to compensate for less oxygen. There is also a genetic component involved in their ability too tolerate higher altitudes. www.livescience.com/38921-genes-for-high-altitude-living-identified.html
But as we rise even higher, such as scaling Mount Everest, which towers at approx. 28,000 feet, then it can lead to brain swelling and death. So we are most comfortable at the bottom of our troposphere, and are least comfortable without any atmosphere at all.
