The term Criminal Insanity refers to the permanent or temporary inability of a person to reason normally and tell right from wrong. True, after committing the crime the person might recognize that it was wrong, but did he have that ability while committing the crime is the issue that must be legally resolved. The person proven to be insane via a court of law is legally insane. Recurrent insanity means that the person shifts back and forth from being sane to being insane. Multiple personality disorder, in which one of the personalities might be a criminal, is one example. Emotional insanity doesn't involve an inability to tell right from wrong. It involves sudden and perhaps persistent, and overwhelming emotions, such as rage, jealousy, envy, lust that lead the person to commit acts he knows are wrong, but can't help himself. In fact, such a person might even experience remorse for what he has done. thelawdictionary.org/criminal-insanity/
