What Believing in Eternal Torment in Hell Demands
One belief that seems to persist despite humanity's increased understanding of ethics and its stringent moral requirements, is the sordid idea of a god whom is described as being holy, yet has created a torture chamber in order to punish forever those humans who have displeased him.
A vast torture chamber where this entity employs his own enemies and the most evil sinners in the universe, Satan the Devil and his demons, to do the torturing for him, sadistically, enjoy themselves forever doing so, as he calmly contemplates the hideous activities in full approval.
But there is far more and equally as morally hideous involved. You see, in his realm called heaven, this same entity that they refer to as their god, and whom they insist in identifying as the biblical God, expects humans who have been resurrected and glorified in order to dwell there with him, to remain totally unmoved by the deplorable situation of their suffering fellow humans.
Yes, of course, some of those who are screaming in agony might actually be their brothers, fathers, mothers sisters, grandparents, acquaintances, or former friends. Yet, in order to retain their holy standing in heaven, they are required to remain not just totally unmoved, but to praise this entity for keeping them in that situation. If not, of course, then they also will be sent there to add their eternally unheeded screams of agony to the roiling deafening tumult of the victims amidst the laughter of those helping to inflict the agonies .
Now, these individuals who calmly choose to describe their god in that way, know full well that the United Nations has laws that prohibit cruel and unusual punishment, such as whippings, or torture of any kind. Why! Because it is considered immoral to inflict pain merely for the sake of inflicting pain and not because it is necessary, as in a lifesaving surgery to remove a brain tumor.
They know that even when people are imprisoned, an effort is made to help them change via counselling and education. Why? because imprisonment merely for the sake of the suffering it inflicts, is considered immoral.
So I wondered exactly what sort of mentality would choose to classify such an entity as being all wise, loving, and a the epitome of goodness and holiness and happily accept that those who disagree with what they describe as his holy methods, will also earn his wrath. Curiously, and paradoxically, when asked whether they would burn their child's hand because their child has disobeyed, they respond immediately with "Absolutely not! What do you think I am, a savage?"
In short, they do recognize at some level, that there is definitely an injustice inherent in the punishment they claim is being inflicted . Well, that being the case, then the only viable explanation for their seemingly calm acceptance of eternal torment, in a torture chamber called hell created by their god for that purpose, is that they are terrorized shitless by the threat, and have decided to go along lest they themselves are sent there by this remorselessly wrathful entity which they so reverently choose to refer to as their god.
Yes, of course, they would never do such a horrible thing to one of their own kids. But of course, this entity whom they feel deserves to be called God, must surely know infinitely more about the people he chooses to cook alive forever, and so they surely must deserve whatever this sadistic entity does. So it will always be "OK" by them.
