If Earth Suddenly Stopped Rotating
Degrass is right. The effects of this sudden rotational stoppage would indeed be disastrous due to the momentum that would be created by the sudden stoppage. Yes all that is not bolted would indeed go flying at the velocities dictated by their latitudes. However, there is far more involved in relation to this hypothetical phenomenon.
The Pacific Ocean would suddenly start streaming towards the coasts of all countries due east, such as the coast of the Pacific Islands and the coasts of North and South America subjecting them to monstrous tsunamis.
Conversely, the Atlantic Ocean would be hurled towards the coasts of Africa and Europe, inundating all the coastal areas with the same devastating effects.
Also, the stoppage would drastically affect our atmosphere, since it is also rotating along with the rest of the Earth. So when the Earth would cease to rotate, the air would retain its momentum. Which means that it would retain the velocity of its former rotation at its different latitudes.
At the equator, those winds would be moving at 1000-miles per hour. So the farther that the atmosphere would be from the Equator, the less velocity it would gain in addition to its former velocity from the sudden rotational stoppage.
Now, imagine being on an airplane and suddenly being propelled east by the surrounding air at an additional 1000 miles per hour at the Equator. Depending on the aircraft's trajectory, it could find itself flying east backwards, sideways, or being suddenly hurled against nearby buildings, mountains, water, or against the ground with the benefit of an additional velocity added by its engines.
But that's not all, these nightmare winds would also sweep up the debris that the sudden rotational stoppage had already created below. The devastating effect would be similar to that of a gargantuan sandblaster grinding everything, including people, animals, and plants, before it into fine dust. The safest location in such an event, would be near the poles where the effect of the sudden stoppage would be minimal due to a far slower rotational velocity.
Earth's Waters
Earth's Oceans Rivers Lakes and Seas would also be suddenly be hurled due East. For example, the Indian Sea China Sea would slump into all the islands to there east. The waters of river such as the Nile, the Amazon, the Mississippi, The Tigris and Euphrates. and all other rivers on the Volga, and all other rivers on Earth would suddenly be hurled at the velocity of in harmony with their latitudes against the shores in that direction inundating all cities along their shores and other human communities farther inland. Conversely, the Atlantic Ocean would be hurled towards the coasts of Africa and Europe, inundating all the coastal areas with the same devastating effects.

Sandblasting Effect

Addendum and Clarification
No, I am not an astrophysicist. But that doesn't render me brain-dead and incapable of reasoning ability, now-does it? So please excuse me for being able to think!
