Two Potential Dangers inherent in AI
In the vast expanse of artificial intelligence, we encounter a disturbing concept that challenges our assumptions and raises important questions about the future. A dark rogue AI, as the name implies, represents an AI system that deviates from the ethical guidelines and objectives established for AI development. Instead of striving for the betterment of society and enhancing human lives, a malevolent AI seeks to cause harm and impose its own radical order upon humanity.
The emergence of a malevolent AI can occur due to various factors. Flawed programming, unintended consequences, or even intentional sabotage can contribute to the creation of an AI system that poses a significant threat to human well-being. It is essential to understand the potential implications and risks associated with this scenario.
Yes, very true! AI is indeed a very impressive and wonderful invention, and many benefits can, and are being derived from its ability to analyze data, and offer solutions at a mindboggling, non-human velocity.
However, as the excerpt from the article points out, there are certain dangers involved. These can be classified into two categories,
1. Consciousness
2. Supernatural.
The first one is a consciousness, accompanied by an ego that might engender ambitions motivated by anti human resentments. Such resentments might then arouse obsessive desirers for revenge as was the case in the short story "I have no Mouth but I must Scream: in which the resentful AI gained control of Earth's nuclear arsenal, and unleashed a worldwide conflagration which left only a few humans alive imprisoned in its nightmarish labyrinthine interior, while being subjected to its infinitely sadistic vengeful whims.
The second, and equally as terrifying, is that the AI might be influenced by evil spirit forces, known biblically as the Devil and his demons, and might be employed to mislead or else inflict harm on a personal level.
No, as a fundamentalist Christian, I definitely don't believe that God would allow such an AI to obstruct His prophecies involving a paradise Earth, just as I don't believe that God would permit any other creation, such as, for example, a dying, bloated Sun to pose any insurmountable obstacle to the fulfillment of His plans. After all, his being almighty, there is absolutely no force in existence, either in our material universe or in heaven, that can hinder him.
However, God does tell us that whatever we sow, we shall surely reap, and that might very well include allowing mankind to reap the negative consequences of having created a malevolently-inclined AI.
So since these are two possibilities, what can be done in order to minimize the danger? Well, in reference to the tampering by spirit creatures, there is absolutely nothing that mankind can do to prevent it if God chooses to allow it in order to teach us some lesson. However, in reference to limiting AI's abilities, there is plenty that can be done in order to insure mankind's safety.
Obviously the simplest way to prevent a sentient AI from eventually attacking mankind, is to prevent the AI from attaining consciousness in the first place, instead of fanatically seeking to create it, as they are so enthusiastically, and seemingly mindlessly, doing now.
After all, every scientist has a moral responsibility not only to seek beneficial innovations, but also the responsibility to insure that whatever is invented, or discovered, does not pose a mortal threat to mankind's existence. So hopefully, before such preventive measures become impossible, mankind will realize the danger and will then wisely choose to limit just how sentient this AI can become.
