Response To Criticism against Luguizamo's Statement
Just recently, I watched a video and read various comments in which African Americans have criticized Latino actor Luguizamo's for having claimed that the Latino American community had been the one that has contributed the most as a minority group the the development of the USA. Below are two of my responses.
My Most Recent Response
At no time did Luguizamo disparage the Afro American community. He simply pointed out historical facts in reference to the Latino American contributions to the development of the United States. If indeed the things that he mentioned are lies, then you should present compelling evidence to the contrary. If indeed you cannot refute the contributions he motioned with irrefutable counterevidence, then your argument is mute.
As for Latino unity, no, he is not saying that all those Latino nations you mention are all on friendly terms with one another. In fact, that is totally irrelevant to the subject at hand. After all, those nations have their own histories and those histories include warfare against each other such as the wars that took place involving Argentina , Brazil and Paraguay. Or the conflict that existed between Argentina and Chile and how Chile sided with England against Argentina.
So no, he is not including those nations since the history of those nations are independent from the history of the Latinos who immigrated to the USA or else were already here in Florida and the southwest, which was once Mexico, when the Anglos and you Afros Americans joined them in their invasion.
He is referring only to the Latinos who are either native to the USA, or who immigrated to the USA, and who made significant contributions to the USA in many diverse areas. True, in his personal opinion, Latinos are the minority group that has contributed the most, a comment that angers African Americans.
Well, the African American claims that they contributed far more than Latinos angered the Latinos to the same degree, and yet nobody ever said a single thing about it, even though you folks kept describing Latinos social parasites who were maliciously sponging of African American social rights efforts.
And there lies the crux of the problem! Do not do unto others what you don't like others doing unto you. In short, yes, you are right, Luguizamo should have refrained from making that claim in consideration to how you African American folks feel. However, you folks should have also taken how Latinos felt when you were disparaging them as if they had contributed nothing in comparison to yawl.
Only by showing mutual respect do groups of people get along. and that lack of respect did not start with the Latino community-that constant lack of respect began with your boastful devaluations and constant negative comments concerning the Latin American presence in the USA and your superior contributions in relation to it.
So stop putting the horse before the cart! Social conflicts between groups do not arise out of a social vacuum, they are very often provoked by the very ones who later begin to proclaim themselves victims when their targets begin to defend themselves.

My previous response
No one single group can take 100% credit for building the USA. Each made a significant contribution.
So he is not excluding blacks when he uses the word Latino.
Neither is he excluding whites as you claim, since Latino includes the white race. It also includes the East Asian race and, Native Americans, etc. That is basic knowledge.
Neither is he specifically targeting the African American community as you seem to feel.
Please note that the African American community has been saying that same thing he just said for decades, and Latinos never took pubic umbrage with it. If indeed yall consider it offensive, then why do it to others? How did you think Latinos felt hearing you constantly making that same claim?
Moreover, there are millions of Latinos who are black.

This is the video I responded to along with the commentary.
