Colorism Among African Americans
Colorism
noun
col·or·ism ˈkə-lə-ˌri-zəm -lər-ˌi-zəm
variants or British colourism
: prejudice or discrimination especially within a racial or ethnic group favoring people with lighter skin over those with darker skin.
I just finished reading how colorism is problematic among Latino Americans. It would seem as if the persons believe that this is solely a Latino American issue. Well, this is not an exclusive nor predominantly Latino American social phenomenon. It is present worldwide even in countries such as India where the majority are darker skinned.
In fact, colorism is even problematically present among blacks themselves in Africa and Asia, including African Americans.
