Causing others to Stumble
Proverbs 4:16 NIV
16 For they cannot rest until they do evil; they are
robbed of sleep till they make someone stumble
Proverbs 4:16 NIV
16 For they cannot rest until they do evil; they are
robbed of sleep till they make someone stumble
In the Bible being, a Christian and leading a Christian life is compared to traveling on a narrow road that leads to life. On that road, if we stumble, it means that we are behaving in some way that is not right in Gods eyes. Purposefully or perhaps unknowingly doing something which causes the Christian to falter in his dedication to God then is a very serious matter since it can lead to loss of eternal life.
How can we stumble someone? It can be by setting a bad example as an elder in the church. An elder is seen as an example to follow so his behavior will be imitated and if it is bd, then it can stumble many.
The use of boastful, cruel, or harsh words intended to inflict pain can also stumble someone. Stumbling someone can also be done by systematic shunning or snubbing someone causing the person to identify Christianity as a cruel religion.
It can be by an endless number of thoughtless or irresponsible or purposeful things which all lead a faithful servant of God to go down completely, or else to seriously falter and fall by the wayside. That is why the Bible warns us not to stumble others :
