The problem with shunning is that it can easily descend into cruelty. It also seems inappropriate since the ones doing the shunning are sinners who are in need of forgiveness themselves. Jesus isn't shunning them. Jesus is forgiving them. Yet they are refusing to forgive.
Makes one wonder if they are being as severe with themselves as they are being with the shunned person. In short, it seems to deny the shunned person access to the forgiveness offered by Jesus' ransom sacrifice.
In that sense, shunning is a blasphemy against the Ransom Sacrifice since it attempts to cancel its forgiving power by making its applicability contingent on the people deciding to shun.
