True! Scary as hell!
Why is the present political administration scary? Simple, because it bears very strong similarity with how Nazism emerged in Germany. Denying it while demanding that those who see it remain silent, is not going to make it any less glaring nor more acceptable for those of us who clearly see the potential for the same kind of disaster that befell Germany.
But there is a very significant difference here that makes this situation's potential even scarier. Germany, despite being very militarily powerful, was still defeatable. In contrast, the USA has grown so vastly superior to all other countries in military might, that if it indeed descends into a Nazi-Like regime, it would be veritably unstoppable. In fact, even a coalition of the most powerful countries on Earth, such as Russia, the UK and China, would be unable to force it to relent if it becomes determined to focus its racist attention on certain minorities within its borders in order to MAGA.
And yes, Trump does foment violence by his demeanor. In fact, he seems to make absolutely sure that Americans know exactly where he stands in reference to those he considers bad people who are residing in the USA or else attempting to enter. A very poignant example is his behavior after the El Paso Massacre. What was his immediate response? He remained silent for a full two days before responding and when he did respond, he read his response unemotionally from a prompter.
Then he added insult to the serious injury by stubbornly refusing to honor a request by those who were grieving the massacre victims to keep his distance, thus giving the impression that he felt they did not deserve empathy. To further get his noxious point across, he proceeded to glibly discuss other matters at the hospital itself and was video recorded while joking-as if those who were suffering deserved none of his serious concern nor respect. Scary? Damn right it is scary. Why? Simple! Because a president sets an example that many Americans who are full of murderous racial and ethnic hatred will follow.
No, Mr. Trump doesn't openly demand that we salute and shout Hail Trump whenever he pompously appears in public. No, he hasn't declared a Crystal Night during which the minorities that he constantly and openly disparages can be harassed and murdered. No, he hasn't as yet established a pogrom of annihilation of the type which was considered Hitler's Final Solution to what he termed the Jewish problem. he people he disparages as yet do not have top wear some symbol similar to the Star of David or have it posted as an identifier as Hitler demanded. But by very cunning and subtle and not so subtle ways, that is exactly what he is conveying, and that is exactly where we are gradually heading if this pernicious trend is allowed to continue.
In fact, all that is needed is complacency and enough supporters to keep him, or someone similar to him, in office. The sad part is that this Hitlerian-Regime possibility is not as far-fetched as it might at first appear. After all, The Right remains reluctant to criticize him, and seems hell-bent on keeping him in office for the duration. In fact, his Republican constituents seem to admire him even more now than when they voted him into office-as bizarre as that might seem. So their choosing and support of someone who perpetuates his ideals is to be expected. Damn scary indeed!
