Weird how We never Went back to the moon-isn't it? I mean, that was way back in 1969 and it's been half a century now. A full fIFTY years! I mean, what happened? The film 2001 a Space Odyssey had us with a beautiful moon-base and a beautiful space station by that year. People who saw that film back then believed that's the way it was going to be. Even after NASA began to cool off, we still imagined ourselves having a base there. The TV sci fi series, Space 1999 was a Sci Fi series about a moon-base. It too was founded on the assumption that we would be on the moon permanently by 1999. So there was absolutely nothing deemed impossible about it. It simply seemed like the logical result of our recent trip there and so it was taken for granted. No one in their wildest imaginations ever even remotely considered that we would limit ourselves to low Earth orbits and to putting up satellites for the next fifty years. What the hell happened?
