What is Our Solar System
The adjective solar, applied to our star system, is derived from the Latin word for our sun -sol.

Our solar system is composed of our, sun, planets, dwarf planets, moons, asteroids, comets, meteors, and dust and gas which are in orbit around it at different distances. Earths distance is averaged at 93 million miles. This system is part of a bigger structure, a spiral or pinwheel galaxy of approx 100 billion stars which is called the Milky Way Galaxy which is 100 million light years across and contains from 100 to 200 billion stars.
Our solar system is located in a part the galaxy's Orion Arm approx 27,000 light years away from the galactic central hub in which there is a super-massive black hole. As the rest of the Milky Way star system. it is in orbit around this massive black whole. Its orbital motion is from side- to- side and down like a serpentining roller coaster.
The Sun is moving towards Lambda Herculis at 20 kilometers per second or 12 miles per second or 72,000 kilometers per hour or 45,000 miles per hour. The entire up and down to side cycle which takes our solar system above and below the galactic plane and away and towards the galactic hub takes 66 million years. It takes our solar system 240 million years to complete a full orbit of the galaxy.
Comparison between our solar system's diameter and the diameter of our galaxy
Diameter of Milky Way Galaxy .............. 120,000 Light-Yrs
Diameter of our Solar System ............... 11 Light-Hrs
