Are you really my brother, brother?
Are you really my brother, brother?
How pleasant the sound of that familial appellation!
Yet how bitter is the realization
that it's all as empty as your other words.
Are you really my brother, brother?
Where was the a glimmer of compassion when I hungered in despair?
When I groped for the promised mercies of your vaunted brotherhood?
When I needed a handout to take another peaceful breath?
Why the sneering cold shoulder gilded with vacant words?
Why the constant palavering with silvered tongue?
Why the glowing veneer halfheartedly smeared above a roiling darkness?
Why the promised paradise that you yourself despise?
I fear the consuming fire in your eyes.
Are you really my brother, brother?
Or are you merely a vision that has died?
