Punishing crime by Committing a crime?
It seems as if punishing crime by committing the crime of physical assault has become a very popular trend today in the USA. Curiously, a percentage of the participants believe that attacking people physically is morally justifiable because it serves some higher purpose. What they very conveniently tend to forget, is that attacking people in that manner is in itself a crime punishable by law. Yu see, the Justice system was established to mediate differences between people in order to resolve disagreements via some non-violent resolution and citizens are expected to abide by the rules.
The sobering truth is, that when people ignore these requirements, then they become criminals regardless of their motives which might run the gamut from revenge, sadism, seeking popularity, intense envy of the target, racial hatred, or else a misguided attempt at improving the victim's character. This latter approach, although noble, ignores the reality that there are social agencies specifically established to assist such individuals in becoming better persons via psychotherapy and medication.

Which of course brings us to a very crucial question. Do punitive physical attacks sometimes lead to positive outcomes? Well, in some cases, the person might choose to stop his previous misbehavior for fear of local reprisals. Or else the person might relocate to another area where he feels that chances of escaping violent reprisals by vigilantes are greater.
So since human behavior is generally very unpredictable, one never knows what the person's reaction will be. For example, while some might cower in fear, while others might become maniacally obsessed with getting revenge on the attackers. This happened in Puerto Rico with this fellow whom a police officer had slapped around. He couldn't sleep thinking about it and finally murdered the police officer. Another physically abused person stabbed the abuser in the back and killed him.

Other Possible Consequences
There is also the danger of other persons becoming enraged and getting violently involved. You see, the people shown on videos who are getting savaged, don't exist in a cultural vacuum. Those getting beaten very likely have fathers and mothers, sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, grandchildren, and friends, all who might believe in taking the law into their own hands, and might even be more savage than the people who administered the beatings. For example, Just recently, a mother murdered a man who had sexually abused her son. Another father provided his bullied son with gun and told him to use it. The kid wound up killing several of the bullies. In other words, one never knows whom one is really messing with when one chooses to beat up someone.
Interracial Effects
Then there are the negative interracial relations effects. Members of both races become offended when seeing others beating up their people. It creates or intensifies existing animosities. It reinforces negative stereotypes. For blacks it confirms that the white people are devils. For whites it confirms that black people have violent tendencies. For those who suffer personally ad have a friend or family member beaten, it can transforms that former friendly or neutral person into an enemy. In short, everyone suffers the consequences, including minority groups that had absolutely nothing to do with the beatings.
Also, such behavior weakens efforts at attaining social justice via peaceful demonstrations. When members of a race or ethnic group lodge complaints of social injustices, the people whose friends and family members and maybe themselves were savaged, will remembered and react accordingly.
Legal Repercussions
There are also legal repercussions to such wanton violent behavior. You see, law enforcement agencies take such incidents very seriously. The more severe the beating, the more seriously such agencies take the matter. Intense investigations are initiated to identify al those who had been involved. Videos are meticulously examined in order to identify the culprits. School authorities and personnel are interviewed and questioned concerning the their identities. Neighbors are also questioned. School records and photos are examined. Fingerprinting is used to trace individuals. The more serious the physical damage inflicted, the more intense the investigation becomes,.
Yet, it seems as if those who attack others believe that they are beyond the reach of the law. Repeatedly we are shown people lying unconscious on the floor, and others are shown stomping on their skulls repeatedly in full view of the cameras. This is similar to how they behaved during the assault on the Capitol and who are now learning the truth the hard way, by doing prison time. As if they had considered themselves far beyond the reach of the law. The many arrests carried out based on the recorded evidence proved them completely wrong as does the prison terms that many are subjected to right now because of the erroneous assumpton.
