Facetious
Strange as it might seem, and although my vocabulary was rated at the doctoral level on the college entrance, SAT exam, I have gone my entire life without using this word in a sentence nor being aware of its intended meaning.
Why? Well, because it seemed unnecessarily vague and pompous. As if the user were striving to draw attention to him or herself when a much simpler word would have sufficed. However, when a news-reporter on YouTube used it casually, by my curiosity was finally aroused. So here is its intended meaning:
I still don't feel comfortable suddenly trotting this word out during a casual conversation. I don't know, maybe it's the way that people pause immediately after they say it, as if expecting confusion or admiration? A sort of basking-in-the-limelight attempt which is far to pass as casual.
