Will Ukrainian Military Success calm things Down?
Just as expected, the successful bombing of the strategically important bridge in Crimea brought about an immediate and violent Russian reprisal. No, not against legitimate military targets, but against common Ukrainian citizens in Residential areas in Kiev. These came under rocket attack, and many people have been killed and injured.
In the aftermath, One person suggested that what is needed now are more Ukrainian military successes. Really? Isn't it yet clear that Ukrainian success in the battlefield will only lead to an escalation, and not to a peaceful resolution? Shouldn't it be also be clear by now that the Russian people will not stop Putin, and that their support will be enough to keep him in power? After all, interviews of common Russians show a significant percentage expressing full support for the war against Ukraine.
True, there are millions of Russians who don't want to personally participate in the conflict and are fleeing the country. But that doesn't mean that they are against it enough to attempt to depose Putin in order to stop it. It only means that they personally are unwilling to risk life and limb in support of it.
So undoubtedly, we will soon observe Russian crowds in Moscow enthusiastically celebrating and this latest attack on Ukrainian civilian-centers. True, we might consider them to be staged, and imagine the participants as being forced to cheer as Ukrainian civilians die. Yet, the lack of sufficient outrage over this war-crime by those Russians who claim to disagree with it will also be noticeable, and will make one wonder why.
So unfortunately, it is quite obvious that any further Ukrainian success in the battlefield will not bring an end to this seemingly-endless conflict as the success they just had in blowing up the bridge in Crimea conclusively proves. It will only serve to escalate things further until the escalation reaches the horrifying crescendo of world nuclear war.
Why? Because this megalomaniacal little fellow and his looney supporters, which includes a significant percentage of common Russian citizens, simply don't give a rat's fat ass about the consequences. Shouldn't that be obvious by now?
