On the Beach: Original Movie
This movie greatly impressed me with its depiction of the aftermath of a nuclear war. Everything seems normal at first in Australia which escaped the brunt of the radioactive fallout. But gradually, as the deadly radiation makes its way south, the sense of inevitable doom gradually increases, and desperation finally sets in.
The final scene of windswept silent streets, that had once bustled with activity, accompanied by its melancholy playing of the song Waltzing Matilda, very poignantly illustrates the insanity of mankind ever deciding to wield such a horrific weapon against itself.
Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
