20 Million Miles to Earth
This film never ceases to impress me because of the way the alien creature seems so real. Of course, they claim that it had been discovered on Venus, and we now all know that is extremely unlikely due to the high temperature there. But at the time it was made, the Venusian surface was still shrouded in mystery due to the thick cloud cover that prevented seeing it directly. So audiences were willing to accept that proposition.
Also, Venus is 162 million miles (261 million kilometers) away from Earth when it is at its farthest and 24 million miles (38 million kilometers) when it is at its closest. So even at its closest, they are off by eighteen million miles.
But these inaccuracies in no way detracted from the film which begins in a veer dramatic fashion and maintains the drama throughout. .
