Hellraiser
Just recently, on a certain discussion forum, I posted a thread requesting sci fi films that had most disturbed the viewer. Hellraiser was offered as one example. Now, this caught me completely be surprise since I had always considered Hellraiser totally the supernatural film. After all, it deals with an afterlife where hapless souls are constantly being physically and mentally tormented by former humans who have been turned into monsters.
So I was sure that it had been placed under the wrong category. So in order to confirm my belief, I looked Hellraiser up in Wikipedia and found it under the Sci Fi Horror sub genre.
Then I checked the definition of Sci fi and found the following WIKI Excerpt:
Science fiction (sometimes shortened to sci-fi or SF) is a genre of speculative fiction which typically deals with imaginative and futuristic concepts such as advanced science and technology, space exploration, time travel, parallel universes, extraterrestrial life, sentient artificial intelligence, cybernetics, certain forms of immortality (like mind uploading), and the singularity. It has been called the "literature of ideas", and it often explores the potential consequences of scientific, social, and technological innovations.
Science fiction can trace its roots back to ancient mythology, and is related to fantasy, horror, and superhero fiction, and contains many subgenres. Its exact definition has long been disputed among authors, critics, scholars, and readers.

Conclusion:
Well, I guess I am one of those who disagrees with the WIKI classification of Hellraiser as a sci-fi movie. True, some science might be present, but the supernatural portion is so overwhelming that science is given absolutely no importance at all. To me that disqualifies Hellraiser as a Sci-Fi subgenre film.
Is it terrifying? Yes, the thought of such a place and such creatures actually existing does terrify. However, those of us who know that God would not permit the existence of such a place nor create it, are not as terrified as believers in the eternal-torment doctrine, individuals who imagine that God employs eternal torment in a place called hell to punish people are.
In contrast, those of us who don't believe God punishes sin in that way, tend to view Hellraiser as just another film that Satan uses in order to defame God's personality via depicting him as being sadistically criminally insane. Nothing surprising considering that lying is one of his primary personality attributes.

John 8:44 ESV
You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
