Stupid Movie Previews
I am referring to previews which practically remove all the suspense fro film by revealing too much amd leaving absolutely no surprises. Just recently I was watching one in which people are trapped in what appears to be an endless cornfield. I was thinking on renting it when suddenly all the mystery was unceremoniously removed by revealing what the cornfield was really all about. In other words, the suspense that the film attempts to establish by making us wonder is what is going on is nullified. What is lurking in the cornfield is now known. What their intentions are is now known. So you no longer cringe when the actors cringe and don't share their fear of the unknown.
Result? I did not rent the film. Why? Very simple, because I felt as if I had seen it. The mysteries that had initially intrigued me were no longer mysteries. It was similar to what I had experienced as a kid at a movie theater. This other kid had gone to the movies with us even though he had seen the film, for the sole purpose of revealing what was about to happen wherever the drama was getting intense. "Don't worry, the car won't crash!" Don't worry the girl gets away! Don't worry he doesn't lose the fight!" On and on he went, from start to finish. Of course, that was just a kid,, and kids sometimes do such things. But with people who are crating a film review intended to gain our attention and motivates to rent it, it is unexpected and unpardonable.

Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
