Last Temptation of Christ
First, the introduction to the film displays a disclaimer assuring the viewer that the film is not based on the Gospels which describe the life of Jesus. Then it proceeds to use the Gospels as a guide for the scenes that it displays. For example, Jesus is shown working miracles such as turning water into wine, resurrecting Lazarus, curing the sick, overturning the tables of the money changers at the Temple in Jerusalem, being baptized by John the Baptizer, being tempted in the desert, and finally being handed over by judas and ultimately sacrificed via crucifixion. So it is definitely a parody of the life of Jesus as told in the bible.
However, as the introduction and disclaimer explains, the film focuses on the struggle of good and evil that most humans experience and in order to do this uses Christ as an example. So what we have is a Christ constantly struggling with sinful tendencies and even deep doubts about his purpose on earth.
He is also shown as saying things that he never said. For example, calling himself the prophet of blasphemy when accused of blasphemy by saying that the Law was to be removed and calling himself God.
The only titles that Jesus assumed were Son of God, Son of Man. He also referred to himself as God's messenger and spoke of the Creator as his God and Father. Later his disciples referred to him as Christ or Messiah which means chosen one. But never as being God himself. So theologically this is misinformation.
Also, he is shown as easily convinced by Satan to abandon his mission of serving as a Ranson Sacrifice for mankind. Instead of the certainty that the Gospels tell us he had, in the film, he displays constant uncertainty about his mission and seems to conclude that mankind didn't really need the sacrifice.
He also is shown as extremely gullible when Satan assumed the guise of an angel to convince him to abandon his mission. The filmmakers obviously don't believe that Jesus had a prehuman existence and that before arriving on Earth the purpose of his mission had been clearly explained to him by God almighty himself. So there was no way for him to be as gullible as the film shows him to be.
He is also shown as being susceptible to epileptic seizures and human weaknesses. True, Jesus was in the human form-but not in the imperfect sinful human form. That is why he is referred to as the last Adam or the equivalent of Adam in physical perfection.
True, Jesus was shown in the Garden of Gethsemane as being concerned and asking God if it were possible to save mankind in some other way. But that time was any concern displayed. The film, in contrast, is shown to be constantly in an agony concerning his future. He is also depicted as making wooden crosses as a carpenter to have Jews crucified by the Romans.
All these ideas are based on the filmmaker's imagination. and not scripture. Had he cooperated with Romans in crucifying people, then he would have sinned and been unworthy of dying for mankind since the sacrifice needed to be sinless.
